Review: The Philosopher's Flight

The Philosphers Flight by Tom Miller. " A thrilling debut from ER doctor turned novelist Tom Miller,  The Philosopher’s Flight  is an epic historical fantasy set in a World-War-I-era America where magic and science have blended into a single extraordinary art. “Like his characters, Tom Miller casts a spell.” (Matthew Pearl, author of  The Dante Club  and  The Last Bookaneer )"  Spoilers Ahoy.... I was hesitant at first while reading it. It is, at its most basic level, a gender swap of the biological beliefs that men are better than women. In the book men are discouraged from certain aspects of Empirical Philosophy (magic use in the book,) simply because according to biology, men are just crap at it. Robert fights tooth and nail to prove that he belongs in Radcliffe where Empirical Philosophy is taught in a college setting. While gender politics is the crux of the novel, where even though women in Empirical Philosophy take a dim view of men in their fi...

PC Master Race

I am a console gamer. A loyal Sony fanbaby . Minus the love of Nathan Drake. (Seriously never played.) What is the PC Master Race? The term "PC Master Race" was coined by Yahtzee from the Escapist in his 2008 video about The Witcher . It is a jab at elitism within gaming culture and a jab at the few who ruin everything by being overprotective of their hobby. I meant it as a dig." It is a tongue and cheek jab at the prevalent elitism in gaming. It has ...

Standard Nerd

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... or more apt, the local comic “Dugout” in 1994 that was only a few blocks away, I learned I was a nerd. I have had a love of comics since I was little, and more so a love of fantasy. The Higher the fantasy, the better. My father read Shannara to me as a bed time story. I love big books. I love fantasy and science fiction in all forms. I cried when I got my PSX for Christmas in 1997. I haven’t looked back. I am also a girl. With boobies and a vagina come great responsibility in the nerd world. One that every girl at a convention can attest to. The dreaded “you are not really a nerd, I bet you don’t even know “x.” The random questions that fans, unless they are the hardcore variety even bothers to care about. I don’t give two shits what planet Chewbacca is from. (It’s  Kashyyyk. ) I am a faithful Playstation fan, even though we also own a Wii and an XBox. I play the shit out of Dragon Age, and pretty much anything made by Biowar...
